Skiing, Snow & Water Sports near The Lecht

When snow falls in the Cairngorms Balneden becomes a winter playground for all – skiers, snowboarders, sledgers, walkers, wildlife watchers, not to mention the photographer in you! And, if there isn’t any snow on your arrival, you won’t be disappointed as there is always the thrill of mountain biking.

The Cairngorms National Park is home to 3 out of the 5 Scottish ski centres – and the good news – we are 20 mins drive from The Lecht and only 45 mins from Cairngorm Mountain.

You can find snow sports for all abilities at the Lecht, although it is particularly ideal for beginners and intermediate skiers. They even have a Penguin Kindergarten Park for 2-8yr olds – so little ones can get to grips with the basics in a fun, but safe, secure way. When the snow doesn’t fall the centre has 2 mountain bike routes as an alternative downhill challenge.

Cairngorm Mountain has lots on offer for all abilities too. The Funicular Railway is an additional attraction, with guided walks on offer from the top, when the snow falls.

We also have outdoor adventure centres close by, offering some rather special, exhilarating watery experiences. Craggan Outdoors is our nearest centre with gorge walking, kayaking and white-water rafting being their water specialities. Ace Adventures, besides the River Findhorn, offers even more, including canyoning, family rafting, tubing and cliff jumping – what more can you ask for!

Loch Morlich outdoor centre, on the sandy shores of Loch Morlich, only a 40min drive away, gives you even more choice – sailing, wind-surfing, stand-up paddle-boarding, kayaking and canoeing, are all on offer in the much calmer waters of the loch.
